📊 Mean, Median, and Mode Explained

These are the three main measures of central tendency used in statistics to describe and analyze data.

✅ Mean (Average)

The mean is the sum of all values divided by the number of values

Formula:

Mean = (Sum of values) / (Number of values)

Example:

For [2, 4, 6, 8],

Mean = (2 + 4 + 6 + 8) / 4 = 5

✅ Median (Middle Value)

The median is the middle value when numbers are sorted in order.

If odd number of values → middle value

If even → average of two middle values

Example:

For [3, 5, 7], Median = 5

For [1, 2, 3, 4], Median = (2 + 3) / 2 = 2.5

✅ Mode (Most Frequent Value)

The mode is the number that appears most often.

A set can have no mode, one mode, or multiple modes.

Example:

For [2, 3, 3, 5], Mode = 3

For [1, 1, 2, 2], Modes = 1 and 2

🧠 Summary:

Measure             Meaning                  Use When

Mean             Average                  Data is evenly spread

Median               Middle value          Data has outliers or is skewed

Mode            Most frequent value You want the most common item

These tools        help understand             the distribution and central value of data in statistics.
